The first and only day of the wildcard bracket for TI has come to an end along with the dreams of two teams who came to Seattle looking to be a part of the biggest gaming event in eSports history.
The first series of the day was thought to be a one sided matchup as long standing EHOME faced off against a no-name SEA team in Execration. Many people overlooked the Filipino team but they came out strong shocking everyone taking a game one victory over the Chinese. Despite the momentum from their game one victory, EHOME were able to secure the next two games winning the series 2-1.
Escape and compLexity faced off next in a series where many people thought the North American Col were going to take the win. After the first game it looked like that was going to happen as they pulled off the game one victory, but syndereN’s European stack came to play and took the next two games leading them to the upper bracket in a matchup against EHOME.
EHOME were too much to handle for Escape taking the series 2-0 securing themselves a spot at The International and a prize pool of at least $97,000.
On the other end of the bracket, Execration went up against compLexity in a loser-out series. Execration were able to handily take the first game in the series and carried their momentum even further in game two with some incredible Meepo play from Abed eliminating compLexity from TI making them the first team in Seattle to go home.
The last series of the day was between Execration and Escape with the winner going to the main event, and the loser going home. The game was leaning in Execrations favor in the beginning of game one but after multiple bad team fights around the Rosh Pit Escape were able to snowball ahead for the rest of the game taking the lead. Escape continued their snowballing in game two in a complete shutout ending the game before 20 minutes securing them a spot, along with EHOME, in The International.
